Anita West Elgin TOYElgin Public Schools is very proud to announce that Anita West, fourth grade teacher at Elgin Elementary, has been chosen one of six “Rising Star Teachers” from across the state of Oklahoma.  The state department of education honored Mrs. West Tuesday, September 16th, at the Oklahoma State Fair.

Rising Star Teachers are chosen because they have demonstrated an amazing amount of promise in the teaching profession.  Each teacher chosen was named teacher of the year at their respective districts.  They were selected as Rising Stars based on their portfolio which was reviewed by the regional selection committees for Oklahoma Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. West’s teaching philosophy is “teachers, parents, the community and students all have an obligation in regards to education.  For the institution to be successful, each party must view education as important and vital.  Without education, our society cannot thrive—not as individuals or as a whole.”

Elgin Schools superintendent Tom Crimmins said, “Anita is an outstanding teacher and we are so proud of her.  She works hard every day to be the most effective teacher she can be to her students.”

Mrs. West is currently in her sixth year as a teacher, all at Elgin Elementary.
