In its first season playing volleyball in Class 5A, Elgin proved that it more than belonged.
The Lady Owls advanced to the 5A Title Match vs. Heritage Hall Saturday evening, but were unable to bring home the Gold Ball, falling in straight sets, 25-13, 25-21, 25-20. The Chargers over-powered Elgin in the first set, and while the Owls made the final two sets interesting, Heritage Hall was eventually too much.
The runner-up finish is the second straight for an Owls team that won the Class 4A State title in 2012. Elgin advanced to the 4A State Championship in 2013 as well, but was unable to win back-to-back championships.
In defeat, Elgin seniors Jentry Holt and Kaitlyn Holmgren were named to the All-Tournament Team.
